Willoughby’s all-inclusive community event for people with disabilities ‘Dance to the Nines’ has had such an overwhelming response it’s now a regular gig!

The popularity of all-abilities event Dance to the Nines demonstrates the overwhelming demand and need for similar inclusive events within the community. This sell-out success also showcases the commitment of Willoughby City Council to promote inclusivity and provide opportunities for individuals of all abilities to come together.

Aligned with Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan, ‘Dance to the Nines’ offers a safe and welcoming environment for people aged 18 and older living with disabilities to socialise and connect with others in the community. The event has not only fostered social inclusion but has also created valuable opportunities for parents, carers, and support mentors to form meaningful connections. It’s now held quarterly.

Willoughby Mayor Tanya Taylor expressed her delight at the resounding success of the event, stating, “It is truly heartening to witness such all-inclusive and accessible community events that cater to individuals with disabilities. Dance to the Nines has not only provided a joyous and cheerful atmosphere for participants but has also fostered social inclusion and connectedness among attendees.”

In organising Dance to the Nines, Willoughby City Council has ensured the active involvement of all ability members in the working group, along with the support of mentors. This inclusive approach has not only ensured that the event caters to the diverse needs of the community but has also provided a valuable opportunity for learning and personal growth.

Participants of the most recent Dance to the Nines were treated to a magical Disney theme and enjoyed live music from local band Evergreen Music.

Willoughby City Council would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the hardworking community members and dedicated volunteers who contribute to the overwhelming success of Dance to the Nines. Their unwavering support and dedication have made this event a testament to the spirit of inclusivity and community unity.
