Anneke Newing

“I’m the Coordinator of the Willoughby Bales Playgroup and Day Leader for the Wednesday session. I’ve been volunteering in these roles since December 2014. It involves a lot of admin, taking calls and emails, organising morning tea rosters and parents’ nights out, sorting and buying new toys, welcoming and informing new members, buying and keeping on top of supplies, liaising with Council and other organisations, and keeping in touch with Playgroup NSW. I’m assisted by our wonderful Committee members who are amazing and very quick to put their hand up to do anything else outside of their own role. I love playgroup and my three kids do too. I wanted to give back to a group that welcomed us when we moved to Willoughby – plus the primary teacher in me loves encouraging all the free play! The activities we do are chosen for the skills they help to build in our babies, toddlers and preschoolers, not to mention it’s pure fun! It also provides parents with a relaxed environment to play with their children and make new friends. It’s a support network and a safe place where their children can play in an engaging, child centred environment.”
