Firs Cottage Roseville

The Council-owned heritage building Firs Cottage in Clanville Street Roseville is being offered for lease as a restaurant or cafe. Current long-term tenant Sous le Soleil have confirmed they will not be submitting a tender.

Firs Cottage began life as a humble two-roomed cottage built in the last quarter of the 19th century by Richard Archbold Jr. The cottage gained the name of ‘The Firs’ after the numerous fir trees Richard planted around his house.

Today Firs Cottage boasts a large outdoor dining area of 334 sqm and an interior dining space of 167 sqm, meaning it can cater for up to150 patrons, subject to DA conditions. There is also a small shop attached to the main building for use as a retail space if needed.

Of course this means that popular French cafe and homewares store Sous le Soleil will be leaving the premises having decided not to submit a tender.

Sous le Soleil published the following announcement this week:

“After 16 years and over half a million meals, Olivier and his team have decided to permanently close Sous Le Soleil on Sunday 17th December 2023 as we embark on a new chapter, brimming with life’s next great adventures.

To our patrons, those who have dined with us over the years, whether it has been a cherished tradition or a recent discovery, we extend our heartfelt thanks. Your steadfast support and loyalty have been the bedrock of our success. It’s been an honour and privilege to be part of your lives from family celebrations and romantic evenings to simple gatherings of friends. We have shared both routine moments and extraordinary ones, all within the walls of Sous Le Soleil.

We convey our sincere gratitude to our former and current staff, whose unwavering dedication has been the backbone of our establishment. Hospitality demands resilience, humour, and unyielding commitment, qualities they have all demonstrated over the years. Their tireless efforts, skills, and camaraderie have made our restaurant a true family.

Despite heavy hearts, we are looking forward to sharing with you some more happy times in the next few weeks.

Please note for those with gift cards, we will honour them until our last day of operation.”
