“I was conceived in Sailors Bay Road, born in Noonbinna Crescent, grew up in Kameruka Rd, went to Northbridge Public School and then North Sydney Boys High. After my marriage we moved to Castlecrag. I’ve stayed closer to my roots than anyone I know. I’ve been President of the Castlecrag Progress Association and a member of the Northbridge Progress Association. I’m the unofficial spokesman for Friends of Northbridge Baths. It actually has a bigger membership than all the Progress Associations around here because everyone wants to protect our little family-friendly low-key bathing facility. It’s just lovely to take the kids down there. I really encourage young people to become involved in their community if they can. You never know where participation can lead you. My daughter was once a Joey in the Christmas Carols at The Haven Amphitheatre – now she’s an international opera singer. She performed at Westminster Abbey at the memorial service for Dame Joan Sutherland. Do you know that they somehow found out that I had been Head Chorister at St Marks Northbridge, so I was given the corner boy position in the audience? I could see Prince Charles quietly snoozing in his seat.”
