If exploring an island, delving into the history of Sydney and racing around to solve the clues of an adventure story sounds like fun – look what’s on offer for the July school break…
It’s often lamented in our local area that there aren’t many old fashioned, overnight camps for kids during school holidays – the kind where kids can have a real adventure while gaining some important life skills and a sense of independence. It makes total sense that Adventure Camp, who regularly run popular day camps in Northbridge and Mosman, would come to the rescue! These July school holidays, they’ll be holding the ultimate outdoor adventure for kids on Cockatoo Island.
Kids will discover some of Sydney’s amazing outdoor spaces on this three day, two night camping trip in Sydney Harbour. They will explore Cockatoo Island, with all the history it has to offer plus learn some awesome new skills along the way. Adventure Camp is known for their motto ‘no kid left inside’, and this camp is designed to challenge and remind them that the best fun is had outdoors. The camp will include tougher challenges than the day camps, more initiative activities, more teamwork tasks and above all, more fun! And if you’d like to join them – parents are welcome to come and lend a hand (with a heavily discounted price for their place).
Day 1: Drop off at Bradfield Park, underneath the Harbour Bridge. Head off with an instructor on a scavenger hunt to the Botanical Gardens, Opera House and surrounding area, before catching a ferry to Cockatoo Island mid afternoon.
Night 1: Camping and roasting marshmallows around a fire.
Day 2: Let the games begin! Lots of cool activities planned on the island and further clue hunting to solve the puzzle. There will be tunnels, sheds and old convict areas to explore and history to learn about.
Night 2: Camping again with a movie night.
Day 3: Children will finish solving all the clues with further activities and a major ‘auction’ happening after lunch. Pack up and catch the ferry and train back to Bradfield Park for parents to collect.
The adventure begins on Monday July 9 and runs until Wednesday July 11.
The camp includes, tents, food (except lunch on Day 1) and transport to and from Cockatoo Island. All you need to bring is your sleeping bag, clothing and a sense of adventure. (Also included: sun cream, all equipment, instructors, supervisors, first aid materials, all activities, Thermarest sleeping mat.)
Adventure Island is for children aged 7-13yrs (boys & girls).
