Sometimes the most wonderful time of the year can be challenging for families with minimal resources. Now, 2020’s made it that much harder. Here’s how you can join Chatswood’s LifeSource Christmas Appeal to raise money for those who need it the most.

You may not have seen the LifeSource Church in Chatswood. It’s in the industrial area, down behind Bunnings. It is, however, well known to 100s in our community who are doing it tough and rely on the amazing initiative that LifeSource runs every week giving away food. Anyone in need can turn up and receive meat, milk, bread, fruit and vegetables and other grocery items as well. It’s an incredible production to witness, with many volunteers giving their time, and those from all walks of life – men, woman and children, turning up to pick up the only weekly food they may be able to get their hands on.

Now, they’re asking for a little help from the community as well for the LifeSource Christmas Appeal. We chatted with Kay Waddle, the Community Care Manager at LifeSource, about the fundraiser and what they’re in need of at the moment.

“It’s been such a difficult year for everybody – there are so many among us struggling to make ends meet. They may be out of a job or have had working hours reduced,” Kay explained to us.

“So we’re working with 20 community agencies to help families during this time of the year. COVID’s changed the way we do things so instead of our church family purchasing gifts for the children or contributing food, we’ve moved the Christmas Appeal online.

“Our goal’s to provide over 900 designated families with hampers, 430 food vouchers, 195 specific children’s gifts and 35 seniors’ gifts. We’re trying to raise approximately $54,000 but we’re still short and that’s why we need the help of the community to see us through this fundraiser.”

If you’d like to make a difference to local people doing it tough this year, you can head to LifeSource’s website to make a donation. Options include donating girl gifts, boys gifts, hamper gifts, food and then your basic donations. You can choose one or multiple options, whatever you’re comfortable with.

“We’d love nothing more than to help these families celebrate this year,” Kay said. “While there’s no cutoff date for the Christmas Appeal, we’re hoping people can support our cause before the 25th of December so that as many families as possible can be in festive spirits through your help.”

If you’re keen to spread more joy this year, head to LifeSource’s Christmas Appeal page and donate what you can. THANK YOU!
