Its the 25th anniversary of National Recycling Week, and Willoughby City Council is holding some helpful and fun events from Nov 8 to help us all move toward ‘A Future Beyond the Bin’.

It’s reassuring that the three golden rules of sustainability are becoming very widely known: reduce, reuse and recycle. There are also so many great initiatives popping up locally to assist us, including The awesome Repair Cafe, the Return and Earn scheme, Willoughby City Council’s mattress recycling program and the Recycling Centre at Atarmon. But we can always learn and do more!

Key events to celebrate National Recycling Week for Willoughby City:

To mark the 25th anniversary of National Recycling Week, Willoughby City Council is hosting informative events starting 8 November so the community can have some fun celebrating and learning more about recycling. Here are a couple you may want to register for and pop in your diary:

What happens to my soft plastics?

To make eco-friendly changes in your day-to-day life, you need to understand how your actions – or lack thereof – have an impact.

This includes learning about how your soft plastics like plastic bags and wrappers can be recycled at your local REDcycle drop off points available at most supermarkets. These are then collected, recycled and turned into new products right here in Australia.

Those who are keen to find out more, can join Willoughby City Council for a lunchtime presentation to have all your questions answered — whether it’s about what products are made from the returned soft plastics, how you can support the initiative and what the future holds.

Date: Tuesday, 10 November
Time: 12:00 to 1:00pm
Location: Your home. It’s a virtual event.
Cost: Free
You will need: Any device (smartphone, laptop, tablet) that will let you connect to Zoom.
You will receive a link to the meeting the week before the workshop.
