Willoughby City Council is a local government body in the Lower North Shore of Sydney and is responsible for the provision of a wide variety of services including planning and infrastructure, sustainability and waste, children’s and youth services, aged and disability services, library and information services, sport and recreational services, and visual and performing arts entertainment. The Council is made up of thirteen councillors, including the Mayor, Cr Gail Giles-Gidney, and is broken up into four wards which have specific Councillors to represent them.
Only 8.5km from the Sydney CBD, the City of Willoughby includes the suburbs of Artarmon, Castlecrag, Castle Cove, Chatswood, Middle Cove, Naremburn, Northbridge and Willoughby, as well as parts of Gore Hill, Lane Cove, St Leonards and Roseville. The area is known mainly for the central business district of Chatswood, which is a dining and shopping destination as well as transport hub.
The City of Willoughby also has significant native bushland and harbour front with several peaceful and picturesque bushwalks, as well as historically significant sites such as the Walter Burley Griffin cottages and the Castle, and places of note including the Royal North Shore hospital.
