North Shore residents rejoice!

Cult chicken shop, El Jannah, known for its Lebanese-style charcoal chicken and legendary garlic sauce, will be opening its doors on Saturday 2 March, 2024.

Located at 34 Willoughby Rd, the new outlet marks the 20th location for the Sydney-based chain and the first venture on the lower north shore.

El Jannah, which translates to “paradise” or “heaven” in Arabic, has garnered a cult following for its unique take on Lebanese cuisine.

Founded in 1998 by Andre and Carole Estephan in the Sydney suburb of Granville, the restaurant quickly gained popularity for its charcoal-roasted chicken and famous toum, a garlicky concoction that has become a legend in its own right.

“We can’t wait for the North Shore to taste our amazing Lebanese food,” El Jannah’s head of marketing Adam Issa tells Willoughby Living.

“As a team, we all collectively wanted to go to the North Shore, and that Crows Nest pocket is perfect as you get patrons coming from nearby suburbs like Mosman, Willoughby, and Frenchs Forest along with corporates from North Sydney.”

“The suburb is still family-centric,” says Adam. “Which is where the core of El Jannah started with family.”

Over the past two decades, El Jannah has expanded across the Sydney metropolitan area, Melbourne and Canberra. By July 2025, the team hopes to have more than 50 locations across Australia.

“We want to be the chook of choice when it comes to Aussies and Aussie families,” says Issa. “We’re growing at an exponential rate, opening a store roughly every two weeks.”

When we queried if we could expect more North Shore locations, Issa confirmed, “Yes, a few actually.” You heard it here first!

The store is currently running a promotion to win a year’s worth of chicken! You can click here to enter.

Locals can expect the classic El Jannah experience: succulent charcoal chicken, crispy fried chicken, hearty burgers and rolls, and a variety of sides like tabouli, pickles, and coleslaw. Their renowned for their garlic sauce as well.

With its loyal fans and commitment to quality ingredients, El Jannah’s arrival in Crows Nest is sure to also be a hit with locals.“It’s healthy, abundant, and there’s not a lot of offerings where at the end of the meal you feel great,” says Issa. “It’s chicken and salad — how much better can it get!”
