Over 60 of the biggest names in Australian entertainment are headed for nearby Manly this August where they’ll entertain audiences of all ages at some of the area’s favourite and most iconic venues. It’s all part of  the Encore Music and Comedy Festival and tickets are already selling fast!

With everyone out and about again after numerous lockdowns, what better way to celebrate than with the biggest entertainment showcase the nearby area has ever seen! Over 60 of the most successful names in Australian entertainment, including Amy Shark, The Presets, and You Am I are hitting the stage for Encore Manly. This music and comedy festival takes place over two weeks, from Wednesday 17 August to Thursday 28th August, at some of Manly’s favourite hotels, bars, clubs and restaurants.

For those who want a really good laugh and a fun night out, head to one of the comedy shows. Peter Helliar, Nath Valvo & Mel Buttle (MC) will be joining forces at Manly Pavilion on Friday August 19 to give you a night that you won’t forget! Tickets (click here to book) include a 3-course dinner inclusive of beverages across the night. Local jokesters Merrick Watts, Lizzy Ho, and Tommy Little will offer another night of laughs and great food at Manly Pavilion too on Sunday August 28 (click here to book).

Comedian Merrick Watts is excited about being part of the buzz of an event based around smaller venues.

“How fantastic to be gathering together again to enjoy live entertainment, especially in smaller venues – it’s really special,” he says.

Manly resident and INXS member Kirk Pengilly is proud to be the official ambassador for Encore Manly and agrees it’s a very special event.

“Encore Manly is aimed squarely at bringing live music, live comedy, live family entertainment to the great venues we have here by the harbour and the beach,” says Kirk.

“Music brings people together and, as I always remember being told as a kid, music is the universal language. Entertainment in general – comedy, music – it brings people together. I think that’s really important now for all of us to come back together again and be social and hang out.”

Encore Manly is the brainchild of Matt Clifton, a local business operator and Co-Founder of Experience Manly, a local non-profit tourism organisation dedicated to the strategic recovery and growth of Manly’s tourism economy, and is proudly funded by the NSW Government as part of the CBDs Revitalisation Program.

Matt says the event was designed to attract people not just back to Manly, but back into venues.

“Manly is becoming the epi-centre of entertainment in Sydney – there’s always something on here, it’s a really safe place to go out, we’re family friendly and the community really welcomes visitors to share the good times.”

“Encore Manly is about celebrating great live Australian entertainment in highly accessible and intimate experiences – we’re bringing some of the best live performers and hottest names to Manly venues and inviting everyone over!”

The stellar line-up of musical talent includes Australian legend Daryl Braithwaite and pop soloist Amy Shark. Manly’s oldest pub, the iconic Hotel Steyne, is proud to host these two artists and licensee Rob Stanley-Jones believes these festival performances will generate a lot of positive energy for visitors and venues alike.

“The team at Hotel Steyne are both honoured and very excited to be involved in Encore Manly – for us, live entertainment is a key driver of our business, and having such big names performing locally is such a fantastic opportunity,” said Rob.

Other rising stars to take the stage include DJ duo Client Liason, indie folk band Boy and Bear and local instrumentalist Touch Sensitive. Major headline acts are ticketed for intimate performances but there’s also lots of free, live music with more acts to be announced in the coming weeks. Keep your eye on Encore’s socials for these!

Ellis Hall, whose band Loretta will play at Encore Manly, started busking in Manly at the age of 16 and developed his career through performing at many of the venues which will take part in Encore Manly.

“Manly was the start of my career – I started playing at InSitu and Donny’s. Just as soon as I turned 18 I handed out all my singles to the venues and said ‘let me play here’,” recalls Ellis.

“Having heaps of venues to play in, it’s a really great opportunity as it puts you in front of more people. The more venues you have to play, the more people see you and you can expand from there.”

Kids and families are also included in the fun with a series of entertaining and lively shows from some of the greatest Australian characters. Bluey & Bingo, The Jitterbugs and The Beanies, to name a few.
