The Mary’s House Walk is coming up this month and needs lots of support to rally against domestic and family violence and raise money for the invaluable work of Mary’s House Services.

Mary’s House Services is proud to announce its annual fundraising event – Mary’s House  Walk 2023, raising awareness and funds to address the crisis of domestic and family  violence.

On Sunday 29th October, the event will rally the community to come together with a  resounding “no” to domestic and family violence.

Yvette Vignando, Mary’s House Services CEO, emphasised the importance of collective  action, saying, “The Mary’s House Walk 2023 presents an opportunity for the community to  unite against this pervasive issue, stand in solidarity with victim-survivors, and contribute to  ending domestic and family violence.”

Mary’s House Services provides a women’s and children’s refuge and range of trauma  informed services to support women and their children to escape and endeavour to recover  from domestic and family violence.

With a bold fundraising target of $250,000, funds raised will contribute to providing specialist social worker care for families in the refuge, their offering of outreach programs at the Daisy Centre and more practical support with the critical care needed by Mary’s House  Services clients in the refuge and those from the community who attend the Daisy Centre.

Shockingly, every nine days an Australian woman is murdered at the hands of an intimate  partner. And one in 4 Australian women have encountered violence from an intimate  partner since the age of 15.

This staggering reality is reflected in the fact that NSW Police respond to over 400-500  telephone contacts of domestic and family violence every day.

With an estimated 60% of domestic violence incidents not reported to police, everyone in  our community is likely to know someone affected by this abuse.

Mary’s House Services CEO is calling for a show of community concern and support: “Our  collective efforts can help reshape this narrative and provide hope for a safer future. If you  care deeply about the safety of women and children, join us on 29th October and let’s walk  together toward a community free from gendered violence.”
