Meet Liz Tieu of Byliztieu Studio
If you’ve been around Willoughby for a while, there’s a good chance we’ve already met – or you’ve at least walked past Byliztieu Studio on Willoughby Road!
I’m Liz, the owner of Byliztieu Studio, and after more than 25 years working in hair and makeup, I still genuinely love that no two days in my job are the same. One day I might be creating a beautiful colour for a regular client, the next doing hair and makeup for an event, working on a TV production or testing the latest beauty products. That variety keeps me inspired and, more importantly, means I’m constantly bringing new ideas and experience back to my clients in the salon.
Byliztieu Studio is deliberately small and boutique. I’ve never wanted it to feel like a high-volume salon where you’re rushed in and out. I love getting to know my clients, understanding their hair, their lifestyle and how much time they actually want to spend getting ready in the morning.
Many of my clients live around Willoughby, Chatswood and the Lower North Shore, while others have been with me for years and travel from all over Sydney for their appointments. That loyalty and word of mouth has really shaped the business into what it is today.
The same goes for the products you’ll find in the studio. I’m constantly exposed to new hair and beauty products through my work, so what makes it onto my shelves is carefully chosen because I genuinely like it and think it belongs in the salon – not simply because I need to fill a retail shelf.
And I really do love being in Willoughby. We’re incredibly close to the city, but it still feels leafy, relaxed and almost like its own little village. There are so many great independent businesses here, and I love the idea of us supporting one another and creating the kind of community where a recommendation from a local means something.
For me, Byliztieu Studio has always been about great hair and beauty, of course – but just as importantly, it’s about the relationships and the experience you have when you walk through the door.
