This fantastic new store in Mosman is set to change how you think about buying and selling fashion.

It’s that time of year again, we’ve all got lots of functions to go to and nothing to wear. Or, perhaps more importantly, we’ve got lots to wear, we just don’t want to wear any of it again. Enter your new best shopping friend, Lovett Store. Set to become a fabulous local destination for premium preloved garments, this new offering also gives you the chance to sell a rack of your own clothing creating the perfect opportunity to refresh your wardrobe.

Owner of Lovett Store, Jo Kelly, tells us that the idea for the shop was born from both a desire to fuel sustainability, as well as a general passion for preloved fashion.

“I had sold a huge amount of my own clothes through another pre-owned clothing store over the last three years, and it made me realise there is room in the market for more stores like these.  Consumers want more choice at all levels,” says Jo.

“I had read a McKinsey Report recently that said that by the year 2029, there will be more preowned clothing items sold in the US than new,” she says, “There is so much clothing wastage of good quality garments that people have typically given away and are now interested in making a bit of extra money and doing the right thing environmentally.”

The concept for Lovett is beautifully simple. For those who wish to sell clothing, you “Rent a Rack” within the store for two weeks, which allows you to have up to 40 items plus five pairs of shoes.

From there you can either choose to do it all yourself, or there’s even an option to have Lovett store manage the whole process for you. Even better, as some of your items sell, you’re welcome to restock your racks within the two-week time frame.

If you’re looking to buy, simply come in and browse what’s on offer and go home with some new favourites. Jo tells us that an online shop presence is also likely soon so watch this space!

When asked on how her own background impacted on her decision to open Lovett, Jo tells us it was a welcome change from years working in senior marketing roles.

“I have never had my own business or worked in retail, so starting my own business at 62 was a bit daunting at first, but I have always loved fashion and brands and it seemed a logical step for me to take,” she says.

As someone who loves to shop in the Mosman area, she knew that this was the perfect location for her new venture, “There are a lot of people in Mosman who have beautiful garments they may only wear once or twice and want to give these a new life with someone else.”

Founder of Lovett Store Jo Kelly

“I have always shopped in Mosman and I’m familiar with the shops and cafes here and have a good sense of what people like to buy, how they dress, and the types of garments that appeal to them from a pre-owned clothing store.”

So, what can people expect to find in Lovett?

According to Jo the best way to find out is to pop by and say hi but she does offer a sneak peek saying, “There are new and unique things coming in every day from vintage Armani, Pucci and Max Mara through to wonderful Australian designers such as Scanlan Theodore, Zimmermann, Camilla and Marc, Rebecca Vallance and Camilla.  Everyday wearable fashion is represented by Witchery, Country Road, Venroy, Assembly Label, Dissh and Bassike.”

And Jo’s hot tip for shopping pre-loved fashion?

“Be open-minded and give pre-loved shopping a go. You can find fantastic brands at a quarter or third of their original price that have hardly been worn.  When you buy well, it will always sell again for a great price,” she says, “And supporting a circular economy just makes sense.”
