A cheer was heard across the lower North Shore when news broke on Willoughby Living that New Yaminishi had just opened – with a very familiar and much-missed menu! And yes, Oxtail Ramen is on it!!

If you were one of the last to dine at Willoughby Road’s Spanish Sakaba last year after the shock news they were closing, you would have seen lots of local foodies seasoning their final bowl of Oxtail Ramen with their own salty tears. The local dining gem was well-known for this amazing dish along with their Insta-worthy other menu items, which were a divine fusion of Spanish and Japanese cuisine – think sashimi, bao buns and yakitori alongside paella and churros.

Spanish Sakaba was the second restaurant for Chef Iwao and his team on the North Shore. They ran equally popular Big Stone Tapas in North Sydney from 2010 – 2016, which also closed quite suddenly due to the Metro taking over the site.

It will be fingers crossed for third time lucky with the opening of New Yaminishi in Crows Nest, which has just been through its soft opening period.

“New Yamanishi aims to be a modern vibrant restaurant that incorporates Japan’s diverse food culture while retaining a nostalgic feel based on the concept of Japan’s Showa era in the 1980s and 1990s.”

“Lunch will focus on oxtail ramen”. Hallelujua! “Dinner will be served in an izakaya-style restaurant where you can casually eat and drink.”

The new premises at 98 Falcon St, Crows Nest has seen a few eateries come and go including Jakarta Cafe, Japan Allstars and Ramen Kaio. It was perhaps most well-known for the French restaurant Paradox.

If anyone can make the site work, it will be Chef Iwao. Foodie fans will be pleased to see lots of Spanish Sakaba menu items carried over to New Yaminishi – including: Salmon and Spicy Tuna Tacos, Tempura Zucchini Flowers, Garlic Prawns, Tempura Kingfish Bao, Wagyu Steak and, of course, that amazing Oxtail Ramen!

New Yaminishi is family friendly, too.

We wish them every success.
