The new soon-to-be-opened Metro station is bringing new life to the area, making it a hot spot for amazing food and incredible dining experiences.

Leading the charge at 168 Walker Street is a brand new precinct by Etymon Projects, the team behind Poetica and Loulou. They will soon be opening four venues: a bakery cafe/wine bar, an upmarket grocer, a contemporary Asian diner, and a sophisticated LA-inspired restaurant.

Lisa Hobbs, CEO of Etymon Projects, said: “What opening Poetica bar and grill in North Sydney and Loulou in Milsons Point has shown us is that there’s a real appetite for more hospitality this side of the bridge. North Sydney has a great buzz to it, and we see this growing especially with the Metro opening later this year.”

Sol bread + wine: This bakery-cafe-wine bar trifecta will satisfy your cravings from sunrise to sunset. Freshly baked breads, pastries, and sandwiches in the morning transition to a lively wine bar with tempting snacks in the evening.

Una: A one-stop shop for gourmet delights. Think cured meats, house-made pastas, gourmet cheeses, and a curated selection of wines and spirits. They’ll even have a homewares edit – perfect for picking up gifts with a gourmet touch.

Soluna: Inspired by the laid-back LA vibe, Soluna offers a casual all-day dining experience. Whether it’s a family dinner, a catch-up with friends, or a power lunch, Soluna’s menu of seafood, pasta, and grilled options will hit the spot. There’s a dedicated kids’ menu to keep little diners happy.

Genzo: Expect an innovative menu featuring kushiyaki (skewers), noodles, and raw dishes alongside an impressive selection of sake and Japanese wines. The sleek and moody interior with pops of neon promises to be one of the coolest places to be seen after work.

This exciting development on Walker Street is just a taste of what’s to come to the area. With the arrival of the Sydney Metro, it’s acting as a catalyst for North Sydney’s transformation into a vibrant new dining hub.

Greater accessibility, a growing number of commercial and residential buildings, and a projected influx of over 15,000 people passing through the new Victoria Cross Station during peak morning hours are all contributing to this exciting change.

The Victoria Cross precinct will be home to a diverse range of casual eateries, including established favourites like Mary’s and Marrickville Pork Roll. The stunning modern Italian restaurant Bar Lettera has already opened its doors nearby, and Miller House promises even more dining and drinking options to come. Not to forget that North Sydney already houses long-standing venues like The Greenwood Hotel, and Mexican-and-margarita fave, Four Hundred. 

The Metro is also expected to draw more people to Crows Nest, which will be mere minutes away. With hidden gems like Ramen Auru, Yurripi, Always’ epic sandwiches, and the award-winning Petermen seafood in nearby St Leonards, Crows Nest is poised to be a foodie destination in its own right.
