Philip Porter

“I live in Willoughby and I’m a poet. I’ve just launched an Anthology of established poets all mainly from the North Shore. It’s designed to capture the shape and feeling of the regular Poetry Nights we hold at Rubino’s Italian restaurant in Willoughby. As the project evolved, the number of local poets has grown from 3-15. The whole atmosphere has become one deeply rooted in community. It has attracted a wide variety of locals across age, gender, occupation and interest. It could be described as the ‘men’s shed’ of community engagement – but draws people more interested in literature than the lathe! The success of the Poetry Nights, which are always a full house, demonstrates the immense local interest in poetry. It brings people together and allows us to feel part of something bigger than ourselves.”
