For almost fifty years a dedicated Group of volunteers has been taking pre-loved toys and meticulously repairing and making them over to give to children in need. Introducing the wonderful Peninsular Senior Toy Repairers…
In our fast-paced and materialistic world, there’s an unsung group of heroes who have been quietly working to make a difference. Since 1975, Peninsula Senior Toy Repairers have helped bring joy to children all over Australia and the world by giving new life to toys that are no longer used.
This heartwarming journey began when a group of retirees decided to use their post-work years for a greater purpose. Over the past five decades, their dedicated team of volunteers have refurbished thousands of toys, games, dolls and bicycles, and donated them to children’s charities across the world.
The magic happens at Peninsula Toys’ workshop in Ingleside where they accept donations from generous individuals and toy shops including fluffy animals, dolls, board games, puzzles, musical instruments, sports equipment, electronic games, bicycles and dress-up clothes. The volunteers ask that all donated toys be in good condition, but are happy to repair, clean and refurbish the toys where possible.
Once these toys are restored to near-new condition, charities like AngliCare, St Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army, Disability Services Australia, Women’s Refuge and many more step in to help distribute them to children in need.
This initiative is a win-win for the toy recipients and the planet, as their work prevents the toys from otherwise ending up in landfills. Peninsula Toys also responsibly collect and recycles parts that cannot be reused, such as batteries and metal, further reducing their environmental footprint.
The operation of Peninsula Toys would not be possible without the generous support of organisations like Queenwood School, Kimbriki Recycling Centre and Northern Beaches Council, along with grants from local and federal governments.
Everyone is encouraged to volunteer and experience the satisfaction of contributing to this heartwarming initiative, while simultaneously relieving life’s stresses by tinkering with toys, games and bicycles.
If you have toys in good condition that you’d like to donate, simply drop them off at Peninsula Senior Toy Repairs workshop at 169A Mona Vale Road, Ingleside from Monday to Thursday, 9am-12pm. Alternatively, you can drop off toys at the Toy Repair Shed at Area 4 at Kimbriki Recycling and Recycling Centre during opening hours.
