It’s one of our favourite events on the local calendar – the North Sydney Art Prize exhibits its 100+ entrants around the stunning grounds of the Coal Loader, and what an exhibition it is!

After two years of a pandemic and lockdowns, our arts, culture, and creative communities are ready to showcase their works to eager audiences as part of the North Sydney Art Prize 2022 at the stunning harbourside Coal Loader. Everyone is invited to enjoy one of Sydney’s most exquisite family friendly exhibitions.

Deep inside the magnificent underground tunnels, throughout the parklands, and inside the historic Cottage, a broad range of artworks compete not just for views, but to win what is now the biggest art event on this side of the Bridge.

A previous entry on display in the spectacular tunnels.

Every two years the vast and historic Coal Loader plays host to the event which showcases some of the best in contemporary art, culminating in a $20,000 cash prize for the main winner.

This year’s event features more than 110 artworks from emerging, mid-career and established artists across Australia, presenting works from all mediums, indoors and outdoors, and even underground.

It all takes place on the transformed industrial Coal Loader site, which is located on the Waverton waterfront as an ex-industrial coal bunkering location. It has been transformed by the Council into a place where the community can come together to learn about sustainable living practices, or just enjoy the stunning parklands.

The theme for the North Sydney Art Prize event reflects the principles of the location – sustainability and the environment – with many exhibits addressing the impact of climate change and consumerism, as well as responding to the inspiring natural and industrial elements of the site and surrounds.

Best of all – it’s free.

So get your cameras ready, pack a picnic and take the family to visit to one of the most picturesque and unusual locations for an art exhibition you will encounter.
