The Warner’s Park Community Centre, which was once the Northbridge Bowling Club, has undergone a makeover – and everyone is invited to attend the official opening with a free community fun day!
The former Northbridge Bowling Club at Warner’s Park was well used for a range of community and sporting activities for over 60 years, having opened in 1951. However, in July 2015, the Northbridge Bowling Club closed voluntarily due to low member numbers, at which time the facilities were handed over to Willoughby City Council’s care and control.
Council sought out community feedback on future use of the site and got to work on a makeover to transform it into a community hub for local Willoughby residents.
Works to upgrade the ground floor of the building into a multipurpose community space including a large auditorium plus a smaller meeting room, commercial kitchen, storage and accessible toilets.
Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney will officially open the new Warner’s Park Community Centre on Saturday 19 June at 10am as part of a free community open day. Running from 10am – 1pm, the open day will celebrate the opening of the re-furbished centre and launch the new activities program.
“The centre has been redesigned and repurposed as an important facility for the whole community,” says Mayor Giles-Gidney. “The newly opened building will be an exciting addition to the community facilities available to those living, working in and visiting our city.”
Activities will include tours of the new facilities, a display of the draft Warners Park Masterplan, plant giveaways, food, games, dance performances and children’s activities – including face painting.
Local residents, the wider community and local community organisations are invited to attend.
