Sure, Hot Cross Buns are everywhere right now and in every flavour (Iced Vovo, anyone?), but it’s their hot, cinnamony cousins we’re here to talk about: donuts…
We’re spoiled for choice when it comes to local bakeries, but donut shops? Well, they’re multiplying locally too. From traditional cinnamon-sugar classics to over-the-top US creations, read on for where to find the best donuts on the North Shore. Willpower? We dough-not know you!
Donuts Delight, Chatswood Place

Craving that warm, cinnamon-sugar hit of nostalgia? Donuts Delight in Chatswood Place is a local treasure, beloved for its classic, freshly made donuts. Eric Lee, the friendly owner, brings years of experience to the counter, having previously run Donut King in Chatswood Chase for 14 years.
Open in Chatswood Place since mid-last year, Eric also serves delicious milkshakes, great coffee, ice cream sundaes and soft serve — you’ll find plenty of after school treats to satisfy the sweet tooths (teeth?) in your family.

Mochi Donuts, Chatswood
If it’s something lighter and fluffier you crave, head to Chatswood Interchange and discover the delightful Mochi Donuts.
These treats, originating from Japan and known as ‘pon de ring’, are quickly becoming a fave here for their distinctively light and chewy texture. That’s code for, not experiencing that heavy, sitting-in-your-guts post-donut regret (we’ve all been there). With ever-changing flavours, some of their most popular are cookies and cream, milk chocolate, strawberry, cinnamon and matcha. They’re also celeb-approved – A-List actor, Vince Vaughan recently gave them a thumbs up! Priced at $4.50 a pop, they’re wallet-friendly too.

Donut King, Chatswood
Is it even a successful shopping trip if you don’t end it with cinnamon perfection straight out of the hot oil at Donut King? Rhetorical question. That iconic hot cinnamon aroma has been drawing in shoppers since 1981, and for good reason. Kids (and, let’s be honest, adults) are mesmerised by the display cabinet filled with their iced, sprinkled and lolly-laden treats. Their coffee is surprisingly good too.
Located: Chatswood Westfield (Level 2, near Coles) and Chatswood Chase.

Maggio’s Italian Bakery & Pasticceria, Cammeray
If you’re after something a little more sophisticated, might we point you to the best place to pick up Italian-style donuts on the North Shore? Maggios. If you’ve not made it there yet (what are you doing?), it’s an institution in Cammeray. On the daily, you’ll find locals queuing up outside their bakery, and at their nearby cafe (a couple of shops up) is where the locals get their caffeine and brunch fix.
We digress – back to their delectable Bombollini. They are light, fluffy and come filled with your choice of jam, vanilla custard or Nutella. Treat yourself or take a box the next time you’re asked to bring a plate. The only problem you’ll have walking into Maggio’s Bakery? It’s impossible to walk out without buying much more than you anticipated. Ah, la dolce vita!

C9, Crows Nest
When Crows Nest locals have a hankering for something sweet, they head to their nirvana – C9 dessert bar on Willoughby Road. Known for their house-made gelato, OTT milkshakes and croffles (croissant-waffles), their cronuts and donuts are just as popular. We’re talking Tim Tam explosions, Gaytime nostalgia, and Biscoff crunch, all inspired by the same creative genius as their 40-flavour gelato bar.
Little ones will love the Nutella and Smarties creations, and if you’re truly in the mood to indulge, consider matching your crispy donut with a scoop of fresh gelato for a taste (and button-popping) sensation.
